DAY 2 - EGTON BRIDGE TO BLAKEY RIDGE

After our long first day of walking yesterday, we all slept like babies and woke up to the resident rooster crowing from below our window sills.  We tucked into another huge english breakfast, loaded our day packs with water, sandwiches and rain gear and set off to Glaisdale, the first village on our trek today.  We climbed up to the village through a wooded area and once we passed Glaisdale we trekked through what looked like endless Moors.  The path through the Moors was mostly on dirt road and relatively flat passing by deep Dales on either side of us.  The weather was sunny in the morning, then clouded over as we were crossing the Moors.  2 miles out from our destination, the rain started . . . light but steady until we reached our accommodation, the Lions Inn.  We arrived around 2:30….a relatively short day.  12 miles, 28000 steps and a mere1350 feet ascent…an easy one today.  As it is Saturday, the pub was bustling with locals.  We had very hearty pub fare for dinner (see pic below) and enjoyed some good Theakston Yorkshire cask ales, Cider and G&T’s to celebrate the end of our 2nd of 14 days hiking.  The pub is located on the top of Blakey Ridge so we could hear the wind roaring across the Moors as we crashed into bed for another good night’s sleep.

First selfie of the day!

Our view for most of the day . . endless Moors and a few Dales

We reached the monument, “Fat Betty” on Danby Moor shortly before reaching our destination.  The monument has been a way marker for years for travelers and has a tradition that you leave some food offering for the next travelers.  No we didn’t leave Heather!
